Comment: Hi, I have this problem: I work in a Unix network (running on HP Unix) with several pc terminals that are emulating, and each terminal has a printer. Each printer is attached to the network through a 'print server' attached to the port of the printer. Now, when an specific print server is causing problems, and I want to find its IP number in order to do a ping to this print server (let's say I lost track of its IP #) Is there a command or a way through unix to find that IP number ?

Reply: (edit)You can get the IP or Host name from your hosts file (etc/hosts) or using the arp command (arp -a). Pipe the arp command to a printer to get a listing (arp -a | lp -d "printername"). With this listing you can match your IP or Host name with the Physical Address of your Print Server(located on the print server without the colons). Turn on the print server. I am running Solaris 2.5.1.
