Hi;
I have a physical hard drive 20 GB. Right now I am running windows 98 on it. And want to install dual Linux Mandrake 7.0. So that, when I boot up my machine, I have two options to choose, win98 or Linux.
Plese show me more details how to choose partition on the Linux installation.
Thanks.

Just to be honest. I don't know how to do it with the Mandrake installation program. You need at least 2 partitions, ext2 and swap. I installed Mandrake on a second hard drive, so the install was easy. Be careful using their partitioning program cause it can wipe out everything on your drive.

I also just wanted to install Linux Mandrate 7 Complete on my 13 gig harddrive but I ran into trouble immediately and after a few days of DIGGING have found that Linux won't install over 8 gig without pain. So either re-partition before doing any install so you have smaller partitions for the boot to look at, or do what Timmy said, use separte drive
good luck. I am still cleaning my system up from failed install both from BootMagix and Lilo mn :)

Man, I busted it. The installation did not completed. Because I think I have too big hard drive. It wiped out everything on my hard drive. Now I have to boot the machine by win98 bootup disk, then delete the partition and format and install win98 again. It gives me so much pain so far.
Can Mandrake be easily installed on Hard Drive with 6 Gig?I also have a nother HD, which only 6Gig. So can I put 98 on the 20G drive and 6GB for the Mandrake. IS that Okay helpers???if so, please show me how.

You can install LINUX on a 20 GB HD with no problems. The problem is not the size of the HD, but, rather, where the boot image is located. Your installation technique placed the boot image above the 1023rd cylinder limit, which meant that your PC could not boot to the partition. The Mandrake installer will not allow you to create a boot partition above cylinder 1023.

I have Mandrake 6.x on a 20 GB HD with Windows, here's how I configured it: a) boot to DOS, b) run FIPS from the Mandrake CD, c) split your Windows partition (make sure that the second partition begins before cylinder 1023 if you want the LINUX boot image to be stored on your HD), d) boot to Mandrake installer, e) Mandrake, via FDISK or Disk Druid, will display two partitions- delete the non-Windows partition, f) create a small /boot partition below cylander 1023 (15MB is more then enough), g) create your other LINUX partitions (/ and SWAP are the only other necessary ones). As long as the /boot partition is under 1024, you can make your /root partition as large as you wish. Take care.

Mandrake 7.00 lets you install
after 1024 cyl but it gives you a warning

During install it provides a gui
for resizing partitions (using fips ?)

And if you choose to install after the
1023 cyl it prompts you to create a bootdisk
to access linux

Thank God, I'm not alone! If Mandrake markets itself as the easiest Linux OS to install, I have alot more to learn than I thought. My question, please e-mail me if you have the time, is should I use FDISK or DISKEDIT when creating the partitions? Which one will tell me if I have created the boot partiton before the 1023 cylinder? Please help me, I hate to think that I wasted my money!

ok new problem, i have just had my comp partitioned. i have 2 HD's a 17 and a 10. the ten gig HD has then been split into 3 partitions; D drive (share drive), E drive (unformatted and ready for mandrake 7.0 installation) and F drive (windows 2000 pro installed on this one).

now with win 98 on the 17 gig origional HD (C drive) its a kinda confusing setup. My question is how the hell do i install mandrake 7.0 onto the E drive partition with out killing the other 2 partitions.

once mandrake 7.0 is on E drive how do i add it to the list that appears when i turn my pc on (the list gives me the option to boot up win98 or win 2k - i want linex addded to that list)
