Threw out my career I have only worked on Windows based network, however when I look at articles, job listings, I see a lot of people using UNIX. This discourages me because I don’t know much about this type of server nor have I even used it. Where can I find out more information about UNIX and what it does. Also where can I purchase it at? You help would be greatly appreciated.

Mario,
Experience and trial by fire are good teachers. You can download the OS as cd images from any number of linux distributions, freeBSD or for a small cost from sun.com. As you mentioned this was for a career interest, solaris from sun.com would probably do you the most good. The x86 branch will run on intel hardware but behave the same way as the sparc version does on the more expensive hardware.
What does it do? No predifined limits.
