Hi all,

While in /stand/sysinstall I'm able to setup my gateway tcp/ip addr and the host addr but the host addr doesn't stay set after a full reboot. The Gateway addr does and the DNS address does. What do I need to do to keep all my settings (aside from not rebooting).

I set the host ip addr in the kde utility but it still drops out after closing down. I think I saw a msg about my LAN card not being picked up during bootup, might that be the problem? Can I verify the bootup text messages after I'm logged in as root?

After I posted I thought that a solution would be to edit one of the .conf files. If I'm on the right track, then which one do I edit?

Another question. How do I prevent the message "My Unqualified Hostname" from holding up the boot process? The screen pauses briefly-1-2 minutes while inetd, sshd and a few other daemons initialize, but then goes into "sleep mode" like twice before completing due to my given hostname (setup in Networking under stand/sysinstall. Bear in mind if you will from previous posts that this box isn't networked yet and isn't a server, yet!

I look forward to all who reply.

I don't have a box to check this against handy but I believe it is

/etc/rc.conf

There should be several lines of the form variable=value

I'll post examples later in the day if it is not yet clear

This is also handy when you need to locate a config file containing a caertain string

find . -type f -exec grep -l 'pattern' {} \;

should return a list of files containing pattern.
