I have downloaded and am attempting to install Free BSD. However I am running into a rather annoying problem. I chose to do complete installation, I tell it to use the entire disk. I assign that partition to the /D mount point. I get the following error: No Root Device found. You must label the partition as / in the label editor

any suggestion?

Sure, label the root as "/" in the in the label editor during your initial setup.
