I have a box that i just bought with hp ux on it. When it boots into the GUI it prompts for a password. Is there a default adminstator or guess password to use to logon to HP-UX 10
Also is there a way you can edit or reset the password using a command

You need to be able to login as 'root' in order to manage any unix system. If you don't have access to root you won't be able to do much. There are no default 'guest' logins established and even if there was, it would only have general user permissions. The unix command to administer passwords is:
# passwdbut a general user can only change their own password. root is the only account that can change/set a password for some other account.
Probably you will need to boot off a cdrom, mount the root filesystem and try to delete the passwd field in the official passwd file for the root account (setting it to no passwd). Maybe someone else has a better solution.

Interrupt the boot process at the 10 second delay point and do a "bo pri isl". When you are at the isl prompt you boot into single user mode by typing "hpux -is". From there you can change the root password with the password command.
Best of luck.
