I installed solaris 8 system on my Intel platform equipped S3 Savage 4 card. Then I downloaded a driver for the graphics card, but how to install it under Solaris 8 to replace the VGA driver I installed temporarily.
Thanks for any word

IF I REMEMBER RIGHT:
When Solaris 8 is booting on an Intel platform, shortly after it starts, you get about 5 seconds to press the key, which should take you to a menu (text) that should let you add a device driver.
When you make that selection, it would be wise to have your driver files all set up on a 3.5" 1.44 floppy than Sol 8 can read, because I think that is where it expects the new driver to be and screams and yells a lot if you try to change locations on it.
(IMHO, yet ANOTHER REASON why anybody ought to have their head examined if they run any UNIX other than FreeBSD; FreeBSD is probably more than sufficient for 90%+ of the UNIX requirements in the world and it is a hell of a lot smarter at handling hardware than Solaris 8 is -- well, UNLESS you pork out for a SPARCSTATION -- i.e., I think Solaris on Intel is something very reluctantly done by Sun but, well, ANYWAY . . . . . . )
If you get your new driver files ratcheted on, and they work, please let me know. I am having one hell of a time getting any video card to work under any circumstances but plain old VGA and what a rotten screen it makes too under Solaris 8.
Solaris 8 appears to me to be VERY STUPID when it goes about detecting video cards during install.
Thanks.
