I had the same problems for Trident 9400.
The only solution I have found until now is
using the VGA16-server (instead of the SVGA one).

I had no problems w/ my TGUI9440.
I configured my X using XMetroconfig (configX) which came with RH 5.0 (Hurricane).

I run XFree86 on my TGUI9440 VESA 2MB whitout problems in 8bpp. But 8bpp sucks, and
I'm trying without success run 16bpp depth.
Can anybody help me?

On M$ Windows I run 16bpp (with linear framebuffer) without help. On DOS, with the
SciTech Display Doctor help I run 16bpp, too.

PS: Please send the answer to my mail.
Tks!
