Hello,
I have just installed FreeBSD 4.6 and when i try to boot into it, it always shows

init: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/console, sleeping 30 secs

Well, after about 2 seconds, everything locks up. I have waited 30 seconds, 5 minutes, even half an hour, but it never does anything. I read the man page for init and it said it was caused by a program exiting too quickly but I still don't have any idea about how to fix this

Any help would be much appreciated, and i thank everyone for there help in advance.

Thank you,
leo

It's been a long time since I messed around with gettys in the inittab. Check your /etc/tty file and make sure the port is set up properly. You machine is probably not locking up, you just can't spawn a getty for the console so you'll never get a login prompt.

I don't really mess around with BSD, but you might try posting you question on a BSD specific newsgroup.

Jerry
