I have my bootable image floppies all set and 4 CD's with ISO images burned to them as Easy CD Creator iso files including the 4.7 mini disk. Can I install from these CD's? The error msgs I'm getting seem to indicate otherwise. I also tried to connect to an FTP site but my connection isn't getting through. I have Proxy+ and Zonelab firewall running on the gateway PC. All suggestions are welcome.

The first disk should be the install disk. What error messages are you getting? If your machine cannot boot cdrom, you could make a pair of bootable floppy disks. Having a proxy on your network may require a passive ftp or http connection for a net install.

When proceeding with a standard installation from CD/DVD the msg says it can't find /bin/dist files. The system apparently has no problem reading the CD. Is it possible that my ISO images weren't burned to CD correctly? I read that Easy CD does a handy job of writing the ISO images to CD. I might try the FTP install again to see what happens. I'll check back later for any other suggestions.

If you view these disks on a windows machine does it have 1 file or a directory structure? If it has one file, that would be incorrect.

Then it was transerred to CD incorrectly which is what I suspected. I'm so close yet...

I'm also having problems using ftp. I thought that if I filled in the Network information correctly it would simply hit over the wire while my Gateway PC was on a dialup connection. I just can't win.

Another question. While in setup mode for the network settings I know host means my machine name. Does Gateway mean the tcp/ip address of the PC I'm using to access the internet through (just looking to verify this )? Under ed1 is where I add the tcp/ip address for this host. I'm currently using these settings and continue to fail while trying to connect to the FTP site. I can't ping to confirm my conection but the green link light is on at the network card.

Thanks again to all and happy holidays!

If the pc you are using to connect to the interenet is doing some type of internet connection sharing, then yes that would be a gateway. You will also need to add IP information about dns servers if this pc has not picked that up automatically.
FreeBSD gives you virtual terminals during the install. Try alt - 2, then alt - 3 and alt - 4 for different views. One will probably let you run commands like ping. alt - 1 is your main install screen.
