DSL DHCP 3COM NIC Configuration

I am fairly new to Linux. I am running Mandrake 7.1. I have a 3com 3c905c nic. Under adapter 1, I setup dhcp, eth0, and am trying to use the 3c59x kernel driver. when i check lsmod i see the 3c59x driver but i cant remember what it says. it doesn't say unused. when i type ifconfig -a i see eth0 and it is up. but it doesn't list any ip address. i cant ping. when i bootup, i get errors about eth0 and that there is no dhcp client. Thank you for anyones help.
