hi frenz,
I want to copy some set of file with the following naming convention.
voids.yymmdd.Z to a particular directory from a set of different directories.since all this directories contains the same naming convention as above the files getting overlapped when i ftped them manually.so i decided to change the name from void.yymmdd.Z to void.yymmdd.<dirname>.Z .Since there are numerous files for every directory i feel diffcult to copy one by one. Is there command available specifc for this kind for issues.thanks for everyone

you might want to check out the find command, then either you can do a -exec afterwards, or you can pipe it to xargs to do the copy
