hi every body.. I have bad experiance with my system AIX 4.3.3 and I must restore from tape backup system, and I need much time to complet restore system. Can you tell me how can I make one cloning of disk0 (rootvg)to another disk. so If I get problem again I just replace or change priority disk boot ? Thanks

cloning is a different thing. You "just" want to make another boot device, e.g. hdisk1 ( should be another internal scsi disk1 ! ) To get it you have to make a copy of your hdisk0. 1.) extendvg rootvg hdisk1 2.) chvg -Qn rootvg 3.) mirrorvg -s rootvg hdisk1 4.) varyonvg rootvg 5.) bosboot -a 6.) bootlist -m normal hdisk0 hdisk1 if hdisk0 fails, system will boot from hdisk1 to check it before, you can enter -bootlist -m normal hdisk1 hdisk0 and shutdown your system.When it´s up again type bootinfo -b and if it shows hdisk1 you´ll see that everything is fine and that hdisk1 is the new, second bootable disk.Afterwards you can set hdisk0 back, to boot from there as the "NORMAl" disk. Take care on the output of lslv -m hd5 physical partition must be the same on both disk's. I didn't see any reason for rebooting just use "syncvg rootvg" A kind of cloning can be done simmilare just create the mirror as described by hoppel67 without useing the bosboot command. After that reducevg rootvg hdisk1. But the cost advantage is clearly on tape. If disk space is issue in your env just create Logical volume copys. Bin für jede Erfahrung dankbar die ich nicht mehr machen brauch. :-)

Hi Frank, rebooten + mobbing machen frei, :)) sorry für den schwarzen Humor, beruht auf die Anfangszeiten wo die erste Lösung der Entwicklungsabteilungen immer ein reboot war. Aber im Ernst, in diesem Fall um das ausschalten des Quorum´s ( chvg -Qn rootvg ) aktiv werden zu lassen ! Mit spiegeln und booten von einer zweiten Platte habe ich bisher gute Erfahrungen, allerdings nur ( aus mir leider etwas unverständlichen Gründen, aber man muss ja nicht immer alles verstehen ;-) ) wenn man die Ganze "Spiegelungssache" mehr oder minder in einem Rutsch macht. Alles klar, nur noch eine frage: wie oder besser warum spiegelst Du das bootlv. Ich habe mehrere Systeme die unterschiedlich gespiegelt/kopiert sind. z.B. auf einem system habe ich: LV NAME TYPE LPs PPs PVs LV STATE MOUNT POINT hd5 boot 1 1 1 closed/syncd N/A hd5x boot 1 1 1 closed/syncd N/A was eine kopie ist. Auf anderen systemen habe ich: LV NAME TYPE LPs PPs PVs LV STATE MOUNT POINT hd5 boot 1 2 2 closed/syncd N/A Was ein Spiegel ist. Ich weiß nicht wo der Vorteil des kopierens gegenüber des spiegel ist, weiß Du das vielleicht ? No RISK no fun Frank

Spiegeln hat den Vorteil das aut. auf beide phys. Platten geschrieben wird d.h. die Daten werden syncron gehalten, eine Kopie ist halt nur eine Kopie... Bis zum Zeitpunkt des Ausfalls einer gespiegelten Platte "völlisch" identische Daten ! Gruss hoppel67
