Hy Jan,
You should try to boot your linux system with an bootable disk or cd-rom.
On the prompt that appears in form of "LILO:" you should enter "boot /dev/hda1".
If you have no acces to your installed system on the harddisk you should try another hd partition like /dev/hda2 ...
After you have boot your system you should first edit the /etc/lilo.conf file and type in "lilo" after this on the shell.
If you have configure your lilo.conf correctly you should be able to boot your linux system.

greetings Jens

Hey.
i had the same type of problem, so i simply boot off my floppy every time. Slows down the boot up process, but not too much. I have also made several backup copies of my Linux boot CD =-) . I was told that the software i was required to install for my new HD could have caused the problem. Don't know about that one.....

Had the same problem- but somehow using an old 486 board that wouldn't support drives over 540 I managed to get a 6G drive to work. The problem where only LI comes up is not uncommon on larger drives. I believe this is a partitioning issue. Re-re install again and monkey around with different partitioning schemes. You might want to add an extra partition somewhere but I haven't exactly figured out the answer to this question myself. The guy that said boot from floppy must be my equivalent- I have a server on a T-1 (remote) that has a floppy boot disk in the drive. (kind of scary but Linux is so stable that you should rarely have to reboot) Somebody knows the answer to this question- Is this the right track?
