Hi Gurus,

I searched out this thread:
http://www.computing.net/answers/un...

At the end of the above thread one post told me how to boot from the floppy disk, but I used SCO Openserver 5 boot floopy disk and followed the steps from the above thread, but I could not get to the #prompt at all. It seemed to me it still trying to boot from the hrad disk & asking me for root password ( I lost ).

Can any one help?
Thanks a lot.
Charlie

I would assume boot floppy is bad then.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Hi Jefro,
Thanks for reply.

Here is what I got and responed:
a:) During the loading stage, I saw a BOOT:, and pressed enter.
b:) After some time I was prompted to "Press Enter to begin
installation"., I pressed Enter.
c:) I got copyright screen..., I pressed ENter.
d:) I got agreement screen... , I pressed Enter.
f:) I got the screen asking for installation media, I pressed "F2" to
quit, as we need to rescue the data.

--------------
If in in step a, i typed hd(40)unix, or some other commands, it simply complained that no such command. The only command at Boot: was: ls.

Can you provide some further help?
Thanks,
Charlie

It used to be on some installs right at that point you can use something like alt F2 or some other key combo to change to another session to do admin and repair tasks.

Sorry, dunno that version. See if any docs are online.
