Hi,
We are facing the following error message for a specific user.

"unable to fork child process. too many process already open"

Then we had the following analysis

1. lsattr -El sys0 |grep max results shows that maximum process allowed is 500.
2. ulimit shows unlimited.
3. The /etc/security/limits shows unlimited.

In all the above which one has the highest priority? 1 or 2,3 ? Why do we face this problem?

Please advise us. We are using AIX 4.3.1

Thanks in Advance,
Regards,
Sakthi

Sakthi,

the ulimit command does not show you the
max number of processes per user.
etc/security/limits is just the source of ulimt command.
You have to change the max proc per user.
chdev -l sys0 -a maxuproc='800'

Please take care that this change is re boot required.

Cheers Frank
