Add route permanently in Unix

Does anyone know how to add a route in unix but make it permanent. This applies to Sun (SunOs 5.8) and HP Unix as well.

echo "ip.numboer.of.router" > /etc/defaultrouter

For HP-UNIX

Pls edit files
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf
This is content information about routing.
or you can use "sam" for add routing.
