Here's a download link...ISO file to burn on a DVD.

Those I've talked to are pretty impressed. Installed it uses ~11Gb of disk space. Download is under 2.5Gb.

I've been using windows 7 beta for almost two weeks now and aside from the few and far between windows explorer not responding bug it is an awesome system . i just cant wait for asus to make updated drivers for windows 7 i really really want my sound max onboard sound controller to work again and it would be nice to have my fsb back up to 1600 minimum

I downloaded both betas when they were 1st made available by haven't try them yet.

What does the OS have to do with having your system overclocked?

"What does the OS have to do with having your system overclocked?"
Some operating systems seem to be more sensitive to overclocking than others.
XP seems to be far more lenient than Vista. I can actually boot into XP with my Opteron at 3.3GHz. With Vista? Not a chance. But 3.2GHz is perfectly stable under both operating systems.
And I remember Win 98SE being more forgiving than XP.
I also recall being able to run a 486-66 at 80MHz under DOS w/ WfW 3.11. When I upgraded to Win95, however, I had to take it back to 66MHz to avoid the daily freezing. I blamed the cheap ass cache on that board.
Hope that 7 doesn't force me down to 3.0GHz...lol

Hey Skip, thanks for the link. I am ready to take a shot at 7. I don't have a DVD burner, yet, though. Is it possible to download the beta to HD and run it from there? Just for now? I have more than enough HD space; one WD 160 Gb and one Wd 250 Gb.

A positive attitude won't solve all your problems, but it will annoy just enough people to be worth the effort.

If you have VirtualBox and 2 or 3 gigs of RAM you can.
I have 7 beta installed on my system and I LOVE it. It's very fast, faster than Vista. I'm running it on an AMD Sempron 2600+ system with 1 gig of RAM. I think Microsoft is going to get this one right. All my hardware installed perfectly. It hardly seems like a beta because it's so smooth. I've been running it all day and no BSODs yet. IE8 crashed once or twice, but now that I have it in Compatibility Mode it's doing fine. Skype has a few issues, and so does a few other programs but Skype's problems are pretty minor.
7's taskbar is much different, but I kinda like it.
I think I like it as much as trusty XP.
The install is only 7 gigs on my hard drive.
The WOW is finally here, lol.

ran 7 for a month and loved it?Microsoft shoulda told every one when vista dissaster came out that they were only testing it for 7 at a nice 180 uk£ kerching Mr Gates 7 will rock and xp will eventualy leave us but that will be a very sad day LONG LIVE XP

I just had a look at the link and the article....one word
LAME!
Network transfer tests have a whole heck of a lot less to do with operating system than they do with interface and transmission media. Regardless of whether they're done under CPU load or not. I'm not sure who the idiot who ran these tests is trying to kid but anybody who's looked at 7 beta and knows anything about computers and most especially about networks, will not be impressed with his pseudo (and quite meaningless) tests.
Since there are no drivers for beta 7 there's no way to really conclusively run any meaninfgul tests. I'd be impressed to see some comparison's with regard to video capabilities etc. Comparing opening excel files or adobe files well, sorry, that's just not that impressive.
I suspect the blog author is either an employee of microsoft, or a big fan.

For me the proof is in the pudding.
I don't need an article to tell me what is good and bad about an operating system... I can see it works.
For me this has been the case to date... actually for a beta release, it has performed impressively beyond expectations (and I'm a sceptic) and I will be lining up for the purchase.
I like 7 and people can blog likes and dislikes as much as they want... and I really don't care, if it works for me.

hi
ok some people here reckon that win7 is fast, reasonably stable (for a beta) out shines vista (heh) and may be a sincere M$ replacement for xp fair enough , im interested.
the d/l looks above my weekly limit so may hang back , but what i would like to know from users with older hardware eg Jackbombs 939 if that was not OC'd would it still be a decent OS?
ie i dont want to find win7 crawling on an older pc as ive found vista does that well already the upgrade path for me at least has become a tiresome chore and an i7 is beyond my wallet at the moment.
a lot of people here uk , are hanging on to their dell p4 'era ' XP machines which run xp sp3 quite happily, vista doesnt would win7
(as a side issue ddr ram has gone up in price , 1 gig ddr400 £27
ddr2 2 gig 667 £22 )any thoughts from win7 users welcome,
regards

You do realize of course that just because M$ has a new OS coming out that doesn't mean you have to buy it right. I mean, until you run into some software that won't run on XP, why would you even bother!? Short of exactly that happening, I won't be changing up at all unless I buy a new PC/laptop that comes with it installed....and even then, I'm not sure I'd leave it on....maybe I would if it came with a nice driver database installed.
I installed 7 on an older P-IV PC at work. The unit has 1 GB of RAM and a 2.? MHz CPU and it's runnning fairly good considering I have no drivers for my hardware (and can't even play the builtin solitaire game without it twigging about the video - no drivers right).

While Windows 7 is a great improvement over Vista, and while I really really LOVE it, it's not so good that I'd want to upgrade from XP. I'd say it's going to be M$'s second best OS, with XP still in the lead, IMO.
XP still does what I need it to and does it well, without needing 440MB of RAM just to sit at the desktop. All the programs I use still support XP.
