The link below covers the upholding of ridiculous statutory damages for file sharing. The US government really has priorities twisted.

VP Joe Biden, FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz, & Obama appointees for posts in the DOJ Donald Verrilli, Thomas Perrelli & David Ogden are the ones that twisted the priorities. With the exception of the FTC Chairtman they all have worked as lawyers for RIAA. As for the FTC Chairman, he was a highly-paid lobbyist for RIAA & MPAA. Some more food for your thoughts ... read

Agreed, interesting read.

The history of the RIAA is not the RIAA we all have become so familiar with.

Applying Occam's Razor: this is yet another example of corporate greed - pure & simple!

The reason why the internet is as useful as it is, is, it has no boundaries & also because there's a plethora of users, using it for a plethora of things. Ultimately, these stupid lawsuits aren't not going to deter content sharing, if anything, they're only going to exacerbate it.

The RIAA is nothing more then a greedy org. I mean to take people to court and sue them for huge amounts of money over songs is pathetic.

What can you really do? I guess nothing until the next Presidential election - cast your vote for anybody except Obama. Back in April 2009 Obama was asked by nearly two dozen public interest groups, trade pacts and library groups to please stop filling his Administration with RIAA Insiders to no avail. One week later he named the fifth RIAA lawyer Ian Gershengorn to become DOJ deputy assistant attorney of the Civil Division (no Congress approval required).

I can't blame the president or any other member of government for this. Simple fact is those making dicisions for us listen to those screaming the loudest. The rich have the capability to scream louder. The rich got and stay rich through the use of greed so the greediest are the ones that control this country. That didn't just happen with Obama. While the rest of the country has been going broke with the war the Bush family wealth has sky rocketed. The poor man sits at his computer and shows distain for the corrupt that govern him. The rich man hires 1000 hookers chaters a fleet of jets and throws a party for those governers that work for him.

As far as I’m concerned the music industry screwed themselves. I mean, anyone remember paying upwards of 17 dollars per CD for maybe one or 2 songs that you liked and there wasn't anything you can do about that in the early to mid 90's? I know I sure do and thus file sharing networks were created soon after as a direct result of the music industries greed. So the way I look at it, the music industry became a victim of its own greed.
