How does the PM tag get into our posts?
Is there an option for a user to turn it on and off?

Do you mean Private Message notification? If so, why would you want to turn that off?

re: Do you mean Private Message notification?
No, I meant the Private Message link at the bottom of a post that allows users to send a Private Message to the poster.
However, I think I just answered my own question. AFAICT, the PM option doesn't show up on the OP...it's only in the responses. I never noticed that before.

Hi,
No there is no way to turn it off. It lets the user you PM know that you are referring to a specific post.

Why would you want or need to PM yourself?

My question has nothing to do with me wanting to or needing to PM myself.
Look at the first post in any thread (the OP). There is no link to PM the author. The link only shows up in the responses.
The fact that the OP doesn't contain the link is what prompted my original question. I thought the author of a post I was reading had turned the link off before I realized that the first post in any thread doesn't contain the link.
That led to my second question: Why isn't the link in the OP? I'm just curious.
