A friend of mine is getting some threatening e-mails because he supposedly posted in different blogs online uttering racist (like killing and mutilating blacks, raping women and their children) and child molestation accusations asking for child porn things and the poster was entering My FRIEND'S ACTUAL e-mail address as his own. I did a google search online using his email address and saw many blogs where this person is entering this information. Fortunately, they do not know his physical address but because they were using his myspace address (in the blogs) people would know his general location and name from that site. He has already closed the myspace and any other site with his info on it.

Put 2 and 2 together and anyone would see a person would never post any such things using his own e-mail address and his myspace address. Whoever it is, this person definately has mental problems of some sort and is very vendictive for whoever knows why.
My friend asked me to find a way to help him as he sees me active in this forum. He doesn't want to change his e-mail address as he does all his affairs online, eg: banking, etc plus all his family and friends have his address.

Is there a way to find out who this malicious person is and have him charged for malicious damages?
Can anyone offer a solution or maybe some ideas on how to solve this problem?
Thanks

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

I can't help but it seems to me that if someones email address has gotten itself out on the internet then it will collect all the crackpots and spam under the sun.

I understand why he doesn't want to change it but I think this is probably the only viable way forward and quicker than trying to track down the culprit. The new address can be setup and stuff moved over gradually to ease the burden.

some other bloke...

Your friend first has to actually file a complaint at their local police department. Once filed their are then steps that can be taken to track down the imposter...especially with issues of violence and hate crimes being used.
