As I was changing the batteries in my cordless mouse for the ump-teenth time, I thought of a new technology that I'm going to start working on.

Why not use rechargeable batteries that can be charged from the USB port? To ensure full power at all times, the USB cable would always be plugged into the mouse and a USB port.

It's perfect! A cordless mouse with batteries that would never need replacement.

Am I a genius or what?

If I understand you correctly, someone already slapped that dog.

I have a $10 wireless mouse that came with rechargable AAA
batteries. The base station plugs into a USB port and recharges those batteries. With 2 sets of batteries, a fresh set is always available.

That what you meant?

No.

I meant that the USB cord goes directly to the mouse itself so you never have to open the mouse to replace the batteries and then go through that whole re-syncing thing with the base.

Pretty smart, huh?

But then you change the species and it is no longer a cordless mouse.......

Of course it's still a cordless mouse. It still has a base station and wireless communications.

The only part that's corded is the battery charger.

Pure genius. I'm gonna be so rich!

Of course, he is. And Mike is right ... if the whole pitch involves a USB cord going directly to the mouse itself so you never have to open the mouse to replace the batteries ... the good ol' corded mouse is exactly that.

Mike, if your Logitech 1500 solution is anything like the Logitech MX Air Recharable Mouse, you have to dock the mouse to recharge it.

My invention houses the recharger in the mouse itself, therefore no docking is needed. You just leave it on the desktop and it recharges via the USB cable, ready and waiting for you grab hold and starting mousing.

It's such a elegant idea, I don't know why somebody hasn't thought of it before.

So the DerbyDad03 Rechargeable Cordless Mouse (patent pending) would need to be docked with the USB cable to recharge the batteries?

No, it's not docked at all.

It's just sitting on the desk. I'm not sure what you have pictured in your mind, but there is no docking station required.

Oh come on, that doesn't even compare.

"Accordingly, its success depends on a lot of factors, including the willingness of the user to adapt his behaviour to favourable light conditions by regularly charging the unit with daylight from the window, and the computer usage pattern"

My ingenious device requires no "adaptation of user behaviour".

You would simply plug the cord from the recharger into a USB port and use the cordless mouse just like you always did.

Man, my next address is going to be on Easy Street.

Is there room for improvement to your mouse idea?... The lazers in these new ones keep getting dusty and performance is hindered.

I was thinking with the addition of a roller ball (I got the idea from roll on underarm deoderant) to replace it.

Actually with the ball idea, there could be a little dynamo connected to power it.

Instead of a roller ball, how about if I include a USB powered blower to clean the dust off of the laser?

I'll have to work on that. I'm not sure if a single USB port could power both the blower and the recharger and I don't want to use 2 cords for my Cordless Mouse.

Perhaps with the inclusion of a dust sensor and a solid state relay, I could toggle the power from the recharger to the blower on an as needed basis.

Better than a roller ball, how about two wheels, one along the top and one along the side as X-Y position indicator??

Not if you buy one of my new mice with the built-in USB recharger.

Give me your credit card number and I'll ship you one as soon as they're ready. You can be first on my list.

I was pondering your thought on the laser dust blower, maybe a dust catchment receptacle should be included.

You new tech cordless mouse then could also double as a monitor cleaner... in fact it could be used on the monitor full time doing away with mouse pads.

Actually, it would also help those with mouse coordination deficiencies to get their pointer exactly where they need to on the screen.
