Is it just me or does it seem that TV news programs have been or are all going down the path of 'McNews' -- colorful, full of saturated fat and low in nutritious value?

Remember how big a deal it was when USAToday came out in color print? Critics likened it to the Sunday comics section. It was ridiculed as being 'McNews'-ish.

Nowadays tune into any major network or cable news and it's been stuffed full of ticker-lines, flashy sound effects, multiple windows and ridiculous stories. It's enough to trigger a nationwide attention deficit disorder phenomena. The only thing that's missing are mascots like the Grimace or its purple cousin Barney to start a stadium wave. Oh wait, they already have mascots too...those are the creatures that report the weather.

Disclaimer: I admit, I actually like the ticker-lines because often times I find that it contains something more important than what's passing through the flapping gums of the windy anchors. But really, I don't need to see the anchors standing up in order to retain my attention. They can remain seated as they deliver the news.

Was recently reading a book and came across a description for TV Presenters and the like:-

Talking Heads.

It amused me and I thought 'how true'

Good Luck - Keep us posted.

And whatever they want to make you believe, there's a reason so many info-babes are doing the news now (it's called ratings, and there's a lot of reasons they stand up---or don't).

Some time ago the networks decided that the news needed to make money just like the rest of the station. In order to do that the hard news articles are fewer and the "human interest articles are increased.

In addition, and for me the most annoying, is the prelude during station breaks that baits you to watch with a statement that could have, in the same number of words actually told you the gist of the article.

For example, instead of simply stating Angels won the third playoff game, details at 11 PM they will say watch what happened in the American league championship series.

Pisses me off to no end.
