A really cool ultra portable laptop from 1998. For the time its incredibly small, actually smaller than the Asus EEE PC. Got a 800x480 7.1" screen, 166MHz MMX, 32Mb ram and 4Gb HDD. Apparently its really easy to clock this particular model up to 233MHz. I'll be putting Win 98 on it and put in a wireless and USB cards in it, then use it for the kitchen table for e-mail and internet. I need to make a power adapter for it as it didn't come with one, hopefully it works OK and the battery charges. Cosmetically it looks good and I have the I/O adapter for it. Should be a little bit of fun! Here is some pics against my ASUS 15" laptop, remember to turn images on:

no it was a charity shop, if there were more I think I would have bought all of them, heh. They actually asked 50 cents for it but I decided I wanted to give more, so $1 it was. They seemed very grateful but I was even more so.

Super cool, good for basic stuff. Would be awesome to have Win 2000 but want at least 128MB of ram for that. I will let you guys know how it works out, should get it going this Friday. I already have a wireless card for it, I'm just wondering how the hell to get software on it if windows is dead... Probably have to put the install files on the HDD from a USB adapter then put it back in to run it.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I got started with Itronix 6000 series laptops like that. The features like:

No floppy
No cd
No USB

all made it bangup fun to load an OS. Hell, all ya need is a null modem cable and some time with interlnk/intersvr.

Hrrmm.. the OS is hosed? Off the top of my head, I can think of two quick & cheap solutions for ya. For a buck or two you can pick up a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE harddrive adapter -- pop the drive out, slap the adapter on it, then connect it to a desktop machine and throw Linux/BSD/Windoze or whichever OS you want to play with on it.

^--- (Of course, this all only works if the drive's still good... if not, get yourself a replacement, or go with the next idea...)

Another idea is to take a CompactFlash card and a CF-to-2.5" HDD adapter and replace the libretto's drive with it... (Gonna need a gig minimum if you want to stick with a MickeySoft OS, though you could install one of 'em on a smaller card, then supplement diskspace with a usb memory stick or two -- I still occasionally use a low-end 166-200mhz PPro laptop that was rescued from a dumpster that happily runs linux with only a 128mb CF card for storage.)

Let us know how everything works out for ya.... Have fun 'n Good Luck!

Coooooooooooool, its working without any probs!

I boots up quick considering its only 166MHz, and the only issue is 2 white lines along the very edge of the top and left side of the screen. Not a big issue though because its at the very edge, I deleted some junk off it and its running very snappy. I'd love to find 64Mb of ram for this but its fairly rare because its not a common type of connection that it uses. The battery is charging OK too, although taking a while been almost an hour and only at 36%. It uses bugger all power, I have it connected up to my variable power supply (Which I repaired today) and the laptop only draws 1.5A at high load and charging the battery. 900mA just sitting doing nothing. SWEEET. Its kinda cool watching it go... now I want an eee PC.

Just gotta get some very lite software on it and she'll be right to go!

EDIT:
AAAAAARRRRRGH, DAMN IT. I hate being clumsy. I had the hard drive attached to a USB converter copying a few programs to it, my chair leg caught on a bit of lead and pulled it off my desk and it hit the floor hard. No more hard drive, DANG IT. uuugh

OK, got a new 30GB drive in it and its running fine. Have to get some sort of networking figured out to transfer files. Very cool little lappy.
