Solved Just wanted to compliment the new look

February 7, 2013 at 08:49:50
Specs: 6.0.1, 2.793 GHz / 1014 MB

For some reason it feels sleeker, and I like the spacing between the my home line and the click categories as they come up on my mobiles. Makes it easier for me to navigate. Just goes to show its a constantly evolving site.

Derek,

If your cache hasn't updated, you won't have noticed. You can see it by doing a full-reload (or waiting a few days for your cache to update).

Otherwise, thanks for the compliments. I like the look as well! Can't take the credit, as I didn't design it, but I'll let people know :)

Yep, looks good to me too........I especially like the black background at the top.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

I admit, it was kind of funny for a day when the chrome cashed version of the banner above had the blue computing.net logo with the black bar next to it. :).

Oh dear, I know my eyesight is not what it used to be but I hadn't even noticed it.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I reckon it was me Justin - yes black band probably went unnoticed but I do agree it looks good.

"I know my eyesight is not what it used to be"
That proved to be an understatement because over the last 24 hours I had what was described to me (non-technically) as a massive "floater". You learn to not see them apparently, and I'm pleased it was nothing more serious. Somewhat shocked to find that my opticians formula was 4.5 years out of date - no wonder the print looked smaller.

So I guess I'll have to read more carefully on here until my new glasses arrive.

Err...thanks for unwittingly bringing this to my attention.
It sure is a wonderful service LOL.

My goodness Derek, the entire site is absolutley terrible to navigate and with all the ads interspaced in the threads it is no wonder participation has dropped to almost zero. How is this better? I cannot scan thru old threads anymore and i cannot raise an old DOS thread up to prominence when I have new information on that old subject.
In the old format I could bring a discussion from four years ago back to current just by a reply.
How is this better? For that matter, how is the web better? Is has become so commertialized that one cannot do any conversations or do any research but for all the ads and filtering of all topics.

I have all website ads blocked in both IE and Firefox so I don't see anything of that sort. From time to time I have seen this mentioned by others tho.

As for layout well I don't have too much trouble with that either. I accept that it is tricky to find ancient posts but I guess that is inevitable. It's the same on the internet - hard to find much about old operating systems because the top of the pile is bound to be Win 7 and Win 8.

Whatever, this is obviously one for Justin to answer.

Its weird, I don't have a lot of trouble finding old posts, often they come up during a search. However I often use Google to do so, so that might be the difference.

We'd actually rather you post an entirely new thread than to necro an older one. It's considered good etiquette not to post to anything older than, say, 5+ months or so, unless you absolutely must - or there haven't been any replies at all.

As for the advertising, these are unfortunately a necessity of site operations and helps to pay for bandwidth and development costs to keep the site running. If there's ever any ad you see that you find particularly non-relevant or invasive, feel free to PM me directly and we'll tend to it.

Thanks all for the high praise on the new header! Will forward this great feedback to the devs. They'll be happy to hear it. :)
