Sure it can be true. Probably is true. but then Japan truely supports their people to intrigrate any technological breakthroughs while those of us in North America must bow to the all mighty dollar and all the regulations (taxes) that are bestowed upon any interprize.

And then of course you are also talking about the cost to maintain a small heavily populated area over the widely spaced areas that are abundent here.

But the biggest downfall is the fact that in North America the internet is split between a few main providers who then sublet the service to other sub-suppliers and so on. There is only one internet supplier in Japan.

My ISP provides its customers with a basic download speed of 8MB/s and faster tiers for a higher rate than the last one till a full 20MB/s download is provided. The download speeds through my ISP is almost twice as fast as the other ISP's in my area.

Both amazingly fast compared to the speeds here in Australia. Those speeds are unheard of. I have a 256kb/s service and pay $60 a month...

I guess its a much more difficult job with a population spread over a very large area.
