Hi all,

This week's poll question is about the which browser you use. Discuss here what you think about various browsers and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

IE7 here.

I've always been an IE user/fan, mainly because It Just Works.

80% Firefox 3.03
10% IE 7
10% Opera 9.61

I have used Firefox 3.1 beta and it was a little faster but most of my add-ons were not compatible.

I have used Google Chrome for a few hours and besides the fact that it is fast, I didn't like the style and the privacy agreement issue.

I experience little or no adware and spyware using FF 3.0.3. I did try Chrome, but after de-googlizing it, it wouldn't run. I use Opera on one laptop with no issues. IMO FF is hard to beat.

I use FireFox most of the time at home, occasionally I use IE because it pops up for my emails. I use an add on that lets you have an IE tab open in FireFox too.

At TAFE I only use IE7. It seems to get through to the internet without fail, FireFox rarely works when I'm not using the home network.

I'd probably only use IE if it had of gotten tabs earlier. I'm quite happy to use IE7 now that it has tabs, but use FireFox by habit now. I cant stand IE6, or any un-tabbed version of any browser.

SeaMonkey for me, everything but Windows Update.

It's a great app, browser, email client, composer and more. It seems to be lighter than Firefox, a tad quicker, I think.

I like Firefox too, but it's mothballed along with IE on my system. It gets more use than IE, but not by much.

I use Firebird 0.7 most often because it's fast and one can disable that install on demand junk.

However, when I'm playing around with my own projects, I'll test things using the all of popular browsers.

I use a combination of Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer 7. I only use IE 7 for my school email through Microsoft Web Access because Firefox and Chrome completely screw it up. That is ALL that I use if for, though. I am so fed up with IE7's lack of security and so many errors. What I hate about Firefox, though, is that it takes so long to load up and is a memory hog. I conquer that with Firefox Preloader. That works great!

Overall, I would use Firefox most often and gets my vote for best browser.

always used IE, tried safari but it kept crashing on me (though IE7 is no better tbh).

I quite liked firefox but as I'm supporting users it helps to see what they see (IE is standard in the office).

At home I barely use the internet, it depresses me

Most of the time I use FF3.0.6. Occasionally I do use IE6. Mostly to check for updates as I don't allow auto updater to run.

The above just reminded me of something. We have some enterprise wireless point-to-point shots to feed some external sites (3 of them at this location, and two at another) and the antenna's for the wireless shots are http capable.

Before FF had been decided on as the 'default' browser here at work everyone mostly used whatever was there preference, mine being IE. Once I had FF installed and started using it, the first time I tried to connect to a wireless antenna, I got a blank web page.

As Murphy's Law would have it, this was when I'd lost connectivity to one site so it was rather important I get into the web interface to diagnose/fix the issue. Needless to say, I was pulling out what little hair I have left on my head. Then I thought to myself, "Ok self, SOP for troubleshooting is to ask, "What changed since the last time you tried to do this?" "

The answer was the web browser. So I quickly pulled up IE and was able to connect to my web interface.

We encountered this issue again when the guys that sold us the equipment came down for some other work. They were attempting to look at the interface with another nonIE browser (it wasn't FF either, I forget which one).

So, it appears the ONLY browser we can use to connect to the antenna management interface is IE.......go figure!

hi,
My regular OS is linux
Since I am on dial-up, I prefer running
elinks in a xterm window. That way I do not
need to wait for all the graphics stuff to
load. When I need to visit sites that depend
on java script and / or really need to see
the graphics, I use opera (version 9.64) for
linux

i've switched to Linux!

I don't know why but I don't much care for the whole tabbed thing so for now I use IE 6. I held on to IE 5.5 as long as possible. In fact I have a 98SE box here that is still running it. I played with firfox a bit a long time ago and didn't much like it. Tried Opera once and my comp crashed, not sure why but went back to IE and all was well. Have not yet tried Chrome. My kids use IE 7with about 25 different search bars. Those silly little things that get added when you download something like Yahoo messanger. They have a 19 inch monitor but you can only see a page about 10 or 11 inches tall because of all those seach bars.

You can shut off the tabbed browsing in both IE7 & FF3. I prefer Mozilla FirdFox 3.

Also, you may not be aware that you can rearrange the toolbars and/or add/delete toolbars. Lots of ways to keep that space above small.

I did not know about turning the tabs off. Haven't really looked that deep. Maybe I will step up to IE 7 and stick with it a bit to learn more. I don't have any of those silly little tool bars on my comp. I look for the box to uncheck when downloading something my kids don't. They claim they use them , I don't know. I don't use IM programs so it has not really been an issue for me.
