Hi all,

This week's poll question is about if you could live without the Internet. Discuss here whether you think about this, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

No email, not being able to talk to a lot of people, not being able
to post this, not having Windows Updates (or some of the need
for it), having a LOT more CD/DVD media, and a whole lot more.

Hmmmm no internet?

I would not be married. Probably be racing in the ARCA series by now. No kids. Would never have worked as a Corrections Officer. Would never have moved to Pittsburgh :)
Would not be sitting here at 2 AM thinking about Life without the Internet. 2AM on a Saturday morning? Would probably be leaving some racetrack about now complaining about the 2, 3, 4, or 5 hour drive home. Would never have gone snow skiing and found out I stink at it.

It's a toss up. Some things that have taken place in my life directly or inderectly because of the internet I could certainly have done without, but some things I am danged glad I didn't miss.

Likely

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my lungs like the passengers in his car.

Similarly, I wouldn't be married. Or at least, if I were, it wouldn't be to the amazing/awesome lady I am married to now.

I wouldn't have the position I presently hold (network technician) but other than that, I doubt a whole lot in my life would be terribly different.

I lived a lot of years without the internet and got by just fine so I imagine if the plug got pulled tomorrow, the same would apply for me.

Life without the Internet would probably bring a revival to the publishing industry and breathe life into newspapers, magazines and books.

What about the postal service? The price of stamps might actually drop. And then there's spam. We could actually go back to shredding it, a lot more fun than using spam filters.

It would be hard at first, and I'm sure that the mass suicide of hopelessly addicted WoW and Lamebook users would make matters much more depressing, but I think I could handle it.

Especially since you wouldn't hear about most of them.

Life without the Internet would mean no need to discuss life
without the Internet.

That would free up some time.

Sure, surviving without the internet is easy. Living without it, on the other hand, is practically impossible with the proliferation of easy high-speed internet access.

For most people, accomplishing random tasks with some modicum of importance now -- directly or indirectly -- require the internet. Heck, the darn thing is available on cellphones.

Good idea. Will keep my TV off during the first few weeks of being 'Netless. Might actually help out a lot.
