Hi all,

This week's poll question is about Microsoft's new Bing.com search engine. Discuss here what you think about this product, and, if you like, the poll results themselves.

Thanks!
Justin

I have yet to even look at it which is really not the point here.

I realize the importance of diversification and all that but I think that the Microsoft company would have been much better off in diversifying into other avenues of operating system development (in which they are a world leader) instead of delving into someone else's field or expertise just so as to try to corner the market again with computer software.. It seems that they didn't learn their lesson with the JAVA fiasco and the forced browser use of IE/Netscape.

To go into the search engine developement just so as to incorporate it into another piece of MS hype ware is again going towards a wrong direction to protect their operations.

IMHO, Microsoft could better serve their interests in the full development of a complete stand alone operating system that could be then fully customized by third party add-on applications and suites.

Looks promising so far. Although, it's hard to imagine that they'll out-compete GOOGLE in the long-term as the #1 search engine. The same cannot be said for Yahoo & it's just not looking good for those guys, as BING is already tearing them a new one.

Overall, it is much better than what M$ had before & certain features, like cashback offers, content previews & video thumbnails does set it apart from Google. But I agree with lurkswithin that M$ should focus more on Windows & not aggressively venture into the search engine arena.

I'm not going to even bother with Bing. Bing looks like MSN search anyway and I don't like MSN search like I do Google.

It's just a new name for live search, but I must say, it sure gives better direct hits than most of the other search engines.

I've noticed that Anthony Bourdain's show on the Travel Channel, "No Reservations" is now doing commercials for Bing.com. The deal must have involved big bucks because the sarcastic former chef used to poke fun at 'sell-outs' celebrity chefs like Emeril, Bobby Flay and the like. And now he's a spokes-tool.
