Justin,

You are now the proud owner of a site that has now become a sell-out.

It is no problem to me that I now have a program that is recommended by this site embedded in my pc, namely Uniblue registry cleaner. Pffft. I planned to do a complete OS reinstall anyway.

To the average PC user they ended up with an unwanted program with free offerings of miracles galore. If they are willing to pay for the gold medal of all MS registry utilities

Congratulations!!! You might as well don a thick gold necklace and a fake fur coat because you have now become a pimp of online trickery.

Hey,

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Are you saying that product is not easy to uninstall if you don't like it? I wasn't aware of that.

Is it possible to enjoy your site as it was in it's past glory?...

I was struggling with "Eanthology" and computing.net helpers helped me greatly.

I'm nostalgic.

No gimmicks.

Hey,

I have asked a few questions to people about that ad. It might change to not say "Recommended" or, it might be taken down completely.

If that's the ad with the green bar on the top I say take it away. Not paying attention I thought it was some clown spamming the threads... quite candidly it's quite irritating.

Hi Justin - felt the first post in this thread was somewhat heavy.
Changing the subject, in the forum subject listings the number of replies are shown.
Feel it would be interesting if additionally the number of views were provided.
Regards - Mike

Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean by your first suggestion. As for the number of views, the FAQ section of each forum lists by number of views.

Justin,

As Mike said my first post was somewhat heavy.

It was intended to read that way.

Why are sucker-punch marketing techniques being employed?

I've always viewed your site, computing.net, to be synonymous with an ideal that we are here to help.

I'm sure you must feel like you have been run over with the cheese grater with all the changes that have been implemented lately, it mustn't be easy.

I'm glad that you still have a big say in what appears here, is it possible that you keep the site transparent?, as it always has been.

We all do the best to do that ourselves.

Removing the downloaded program isn't an issue, I quite often reinstall my OS. It was troubling that it adds itself to the start-up process and runs the scan before the OS fully loads. Then it tells you there are a multitude of problems.

I'm not sure if you have been reading the security forum with the antivirus 2008 / 2009 malware.... it reeks of the same kind of sales ploy.

Basically it tells you your computer is broken... and always will be unless you pay.

Hi,

I realize the complaint. Like I said, I am working on getting some changes to the ad (it no longer will say recommended) or it potentially removed. However, I don't have the power to do that myself.

Hi Justin - to clarify.

When one enters a forum the topics/threads are displayed and against *each* topic is currently shown the number of replies.

I think it would be interesting/useful if the number of views were also shown. For an example of this, please see the forums in old-computers.com.

On a similar vein (and my suggestion may go some way to proving), posters should understand getting the subject right encourages potential responders to view the topic. This is a form of advertising.
e.g. I often wonder when I see a topic with the subject 'Help Please' or 'Not Working', if and/or how many, people bother to view.
Regards - Mike

UniBlu is a Bow Wow. Truth be told most, "For Sale" Registry tools are in the same category. Lots of better "Freebies".

Maybe you could utilize the lounge to evaluate Software offerings. If the Lounge Lizzards wouldn't reccomend it, maybe it's not worth Showcasing on CN.

Reputations are more valuable than Sales. You can't buy one, good or bad, only earn it.

Mike,

Getting users to enter good information and subjects is like pulling teeth! I've tried various ways to do it over the years, but nothing really works. You're right though, better subjects do yield better answers.

Dumbob,

I totally agree with you. That's why I'm working on getting the ad changed.
