Similar to seawatch1's post, what about the best(and worst) personal computer related innovation in the last 10 years or so. I vote for the USB port as one of the best.

Streaming audio & video are two of the best to me.
Vista was one of the worst.
How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Usb has been out since
1994
2000 for 2.0 (dubbed USB 2 as it was twice as fast)
2008 for 3.0 (dubbed Super USB as it is 10x faster)streaming audio and video first came about in the late 20th century. There was mass improvements during the late 1990's because of the multi-cast addressing protocol.
I am not so sure that those would be classified as innovations or just mere improvements?
Innovation would be more on the development of Hyperthreading Technology or Dual Channel Memory allocation or best yet....the development of multi-core technology in my opinion....Close call I know but never-the-less a distinction should be made between what is innovation and what is improvements.Change Is Good

Porn oh wait that was the first thing released on the internet.
Practice makes perfect but only if you practice perfectly!

I'd like to see a real innovation, a platform that works out of the box AND is actually supported by an automated (online) 'un-screw it up' program. Isn't that what ActiveX really should be used for?
So called platforms (other than Lenux) all foist software and utilities that are ALWAYS broken out of the box and instead of ever fixing them, they have the audacity to create either (again broken) hotfixes and patches, that or a new version which never fails to either be worse, more confusing and/or requires a programmer to get it to work.
And why hasn't anyone come up with an external HD that (out of the box) is set up for a given OS and is simple tweakable to engratiate the friggin OEM motherboards, such that the user can simply plug the SOB in and get it to backup the OS so whenever needed, the OS can be (again) SIMPLY one button set to format and restore the broken OS.
Or will the pc ever evolve into a machine that works for carbon based life forms, or will it always require the life form to work for the pc?
Hello earthings, on your planet, is there any intelligent life forms that are worth the while in contacting? Answer: Obviously not, or they'd already have been talking to us.
