Is it possible to have Dual-Boot with XP Home Edition and UNIX Solaris 8 ?
If it is possible, which do I install first?
Please help with steps..Thanks

Yes it's possible. (excuse my english i'm
french).
You have to install XP first, because XP
need a primary partition and don't ask
you if you want to install a MBR.After that
install Solaris 8; it will install the
Sun os x86 boot, start Solaris, locate your
partition where XP is installed.
Edit your boot loader configuration file
and add a line for the XP partition.
(refer to help for syntax).
I think it's the best way for do that, but
you can also edit the nt boot loader (i
think it's more difficult and dangerous
the microsoft os are capricious ...).ps: Solaris 8 is one of the most stable unix
os ... Do you really want to install XP ?...

I have both installed. Does anyone know how to make XP the default OS? My wife and kids use the computer and I want it to start windows if you don't touch it during startup.

If you install Windows XP on a secondary partition or drive AFTER you've installed your other OS on your primary drive/partition, then Windows XP will automatically set itself up as the default OS, and also create the boot menu for you. Unlike other Windows versions, XP is more than happy to reside on any partition.
If you read Microsoft's support article on dual-boot configuration with XP/2000 you'll see that Microsoft always recommends installing the older/non-Microsoft OS first. You can find some sample boot loader menus here:
