I am new to solaris.
I just bought a sparcstation5 from ebay for learning solaris. I also bought monitor and keyboard from different sellers in ebay.
Sparcstation came with solaris 8 installed on it. when i tried booting it gave the "Keyboard cannot be opend for input using tty1 for input and output". I tired pressing the Stop-a while booting and it recognized the keyoard and machine started to boot. but it stopped before the login prompt with a error message "X server cannot be started in display :0". Is there any way that i could get to login prompt with Command Line login mode.Note: I could not get into the Boot prompt by pressing Stop-a Key. Is there a problem with a keyboard.
Please Help. Thanks in advance

Possible keyboard issue. If Solaris cannot find the keyboard, it runs "headless" which means that it takes input from the serial device (even sends output to the serial if it can't find the monitor.)
No, you can't use GUI in command line mode.
If you can get to the command line (sounds like you can), type "kdmconfig" and this will allow you to config your keyboard/mouse/monitor/graphics card. Once this is done, logging out of command line and waiting 30 seconds should allow the Xserver to start (if config was the issue). If it doesn't start, reboot.
