OS: Solaris
CPU/Ram: sparc
Model/Manufacturer: Sun Ultra 10
Comment:
hi all,

Purpose:
-connect a Wxp laptop system to an Ultra10/Solaris 9 box with a crossover cable.
-connect an Ultra10/Solaris 9 box to an other identical system with a crossover cable.

I configured the Wxp laptop and the Solaris boxes (by sys-unconfig) with the following static IPs:

Wxp system hostname/IP/netmask: lapt0035 / 192.168.1.101 / 255.255.255.0 / no gateway

Solaris1 system hostname/IP/netmask: robroy / 192.168.1.102 / 255.255.255.0 / no gateway

Solaris2 system hostname/IP/netmask: robin / 192.168.1.103 / 255.255.255.0 / no gateway

Edited /etc/hosts and C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS files reporting the IP addresses and hostnames of the three systems on both of them.

Checked the NIC operating status, speed, mode and negotiation to be the same on both of the three systems. Made tests changing to half/full, 100full duplex, negotiating/nonegotiating but not chance as just ping from the Solaris1 box to the
Wxp laptop is possible with not chance to access. While no ping possible from the Wxp laptop to solaris1 or 2 and not ping
between solaris1 and 2 as well.

I have not idea on what to do to make it working. Is there anyone that can help with that?

Odd setup.
I understand win-sol1-sol2 is the config? Is that correct?

Sol1 normally would be on different segments.

Are you trying to use host names or ip address to ping?

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Thanks for replying. Yes, an odd setup but I just need it temporary, for a data transfer through ftp between the laptop and
the Solaris1 box and between the two Solaris boxes (Solaris1 and 2) as well.

It is actually weird as, after all the tests made, I can only ping the laptop from solaris (not the opposite) and I cannot ping solaris from solaris.

Please, help me!
enri

Hi
You need to specify the default gateway on each
machine i.e put 192.168.1.1 on each box as your default gateway.
