hello everybody!
im a real solaris noob and it would be great if an expert could give me a hand.
im trying to setup a dualboot system with windows xp pro and solaris 8.
here are the steps ive done already:
- i unplugged the harddrive cause i didnt know how to format on a sun machine (sunblade 100 500mhz ultrasparc-IIe) with openboot 4.5 installed.
- plugged the hd in my already setup windows desktop pc
- formatted the 20gb ata hard drive under dos
- installed windows xp pro on a 10 gb primary ntfs partition & left 10 gb unformatted
- installed partition magic
- created a 10gb primary linux/swap partition on the unused diskspace
- plugged the disk back into the sun machine
- switched the thing on and im stuck nowwhat are the next steps?
how do i install solaris 8 on the linux/swap partition d:?
which bootloader do i need to be able to boot xp or solaris & how do i install this bootloader?
does openboot operate similarly then bios or is it a bootloader?
where can i find a command reference for openboot?
please help cause im really dieing here ;-)
thanks for your attention & have a nice day!

Windows doesn't support Sparc. Your UltraSparc's instruction set is very different from that of an Intel or AMD CPU.
Are you trying to use a SunPCi card? If so, this page should help. It looks like you'll want to reinstall Solaris, giving it all the hard drive space because Windows will install to a virtual disk on a Solaris filesystem.
