Subject: Windows NT 4.0 - Remove to install Sol.8

Comment: Morning People. I have a box with Windows NT 4.0 installed on it, and i want to remove NT 4.0 and install Solaris 8. Ive tried putting in the Solaris 8 Installation CD and booting from that, but drive setup always gives me a "mount" error. First thing i need to know is how to completely format the disk, and remove any partitions that exist. I am familiar with FDISK, but im not sure how to get it to run before the system boots to NT 4.0. Im in a bind, can anyone give me any insight as to how to get started with this?

Reply: (edit)Hi, 1- Boot your system with a startup disk 2- Run Fdisk 3- remove your existing partitions. Note: probably you have NTFS partition. you need to remove by removing Non-DOS Partition in FDISK. 4- restart your machine and boot with the same disk. 5- create a new partition. 6- Restart 7- Format your new partition 8- Try to install Solaris note: As you know you will lose all data if you change your partition. Good Luck
