Hello,

I am trying to install Solaris 8 on my intel PC. It has a 40G MaxtorDiamond IDE drive, but the Solaris only recongnize 6G. Is there driver or other work around it? I searched the both maxtor and sun sites, doesn't find a specific driver for this.
Thanks a lot.

I hv created a single partition of 10 GB installed win98 on that & then by a third party software i created the boot & solaris partition of 8 GB with 20 BG still spare. But while installing it gives me some error & coninues copying the mini-root but after that it gives error 'cannot write the boot record so exiting the setup' & come out to the # prompt.

Hi Guys -
I had a similar problem with my MaxStore 20GB drive not being recognized for its full size. In my case, I partitioned and formatted the drive using FAT16. Each partition is then limited to 2GB, and a max of 4 partition, for a total recognized capacity of 8GB. That was my mistake. In my case, I took the drive out of the case, and took it to a friend who had an NT 4.0 server. (A workstation will also work.) He made the drive a slave to his master drive. He then used NT Disk Administrator to delete all the partitions off the slave drive (mine) and reformatted the drive as only a single NTFS partition. We removed it, I placed the jumpers back to 'Master' mode, re-installed it into my Solaris box, and booted from the first installation CD. The drive was then recognized to its full capacity. Loading then continued smoothly.
