Brand new to the unix world and I just found out that Sun makes a version of Solaris for pc. I would like to know where can I get that and is it free? Thanks

www.sun.com/solaris and follow the solaris links.
You can now download the binaries if you have a fast link and access to a burner (2 CD iso images) or you can buy the CDs for about $US75 - mine took about ten days to wing their way to Australia.you need to be a little careful about hardware - check that what you have or are getting is on the Hardware Compatability List. (link on abaove to free binaries then specs then HCL.
Once you've got all that, get on to www.sunfreeware.com and there are links on the left to 'other usefull sites'
get into it.
welcome aboard.

In making more of a point about being carefull with hardware compatibility, this goes especially for the video card. If Solaris doesn't recognize the video display you will not be able to launch the CDE, this is very important when you are considering using this machine as a workstation. Another important note to pay attention to is that if Solaris doesn't detect the video card correctly and you tell it to "test" it, chances are that it will fail and render the install useless forcing you to do a complete reinstall. I've noticed this particularly on Machines that come directly from Dell, Compaq and Toshiba, custom built systems are known to work better.
Just my $0.02

I checked out the link www.sun.com/solaris and found out that the download is called off already for Solaris 8 INTEL version.
Do anyone have any other sources for download.
Thanks
