I returned home one day to find my SPARCstation 5 had apparently been rebooted
without my interaction and the screen held
messages indicating:Watchdog Reset
Externally Initiated ResetThe "Externally Initiated" part worries me.
My box IS connected to the outside world
via Internet, but I'm still living under
the delusion that Unix, in all it's forms,
especially Solaris, isn't quite as
vulnerably open to exploitation as other
(FEATURE of the Day, Windows?) OSs.
So I'll presume it's something local -
hardware or OS setup.
Although it was visible, the <ok> prompt
was inert (keyboard linked to DEVNULL?).Within the next 48 hours, it rebooted -
apparently at the behest of another
anonymous maleficent daemon and got to
the point of "Initiating memory,"
where it has halted, with the keyboard
still seemingly linked to DEVNULL.For personal reasons, I don't have the
resources I once had for dealing with such
grief and would appreciate any hints as to
what I should look at/for and attempt.
(Tell me where to poke, and with what,
and I'll have a go.)Thanx to any who offer assistance.

Just seeing what a message from someone else
at <computing.net> in response to a post
looks like.So now we know
