VNC window not good

Hello Everybody,
I have installed VNC on a Solaris 9 and a Solaris 10 system. Both installations the same. I connect to the 10 system and the X window is ok. But when I connect to the 9 system it just displays a color frame and a terminal window on top; no proper background and no menus or icons are displayed. How should I start to troubleshoot?
