Well my friends, i've scoured this site and haven't found my answer though i feel like i know u all very well now ;) allow me to introduce myself with this perhaps trite issue but it's racking my brain personally.
I have recently installed solx86 v.9 as a guest OS on win2k and while installing could ping the ip i gave it with no probs, but then as soon as I actually got it installed and went in, nada.
ifconfig pcn0 shows me that my subnet and ip are just fine, I can ping myself, there are no other ip's on the subnet, i have a defaultrouter specified, the name and ip are setup on my dns server, resolv.conf is set right, the nsswitch.conf file looks good, etc.
I don't know if you all know vmware but I've tried it in bridged and NAT mode b/c i heard nat mode works better for some reason..
again, it tells me that pcn0 is indeed alive.
Any ideas???
TIA all,
chris

From what I know (I havenīt tested) Solaris don't run on VMware.
Check this spec:
http://www.vmware.com/products/desktop/ws_specs.htmlRegards TechMark

it does.. tons of ppl do it, there are how-to's all over the place.. i've got it installed but i can't find anyone having the same network issues. thanks for the quick follow-up. any ideas that may not be "vmware"-related?? i'm new to solaris.. thanks

You can find the free Solaris admin guides from Sun at docs.sun.com
You can view them online, download them as pdf-files or order them as printed book (costs money).
They are realy good.Happy reading... :-)
As for Solaris, Iīm not sure I havenīt tested Solaris 9 on x86 yet. It might be some little trick needed to get to work properly. Because it seems like it should be working. You havenīt by chance any firewall service running per default that is blocking it out??
Otherwise I donīt have a clue for the moment... :(//TechMark

no firewall installed yet, totally wide open, and i've checked the docs site but to no avail (argh). what fun!! thanks Mark
