whats the chip?

What did kdmconfig suggest?

driver updates are at http://access1.sun.com
and there are X updates for various video drivers in the recommended patch list.

I think you'll find dell doesn't know what solaris, maybe even unix is, let alone how to release an xwindows driver patch, so they might not be responding to sun's requests for information and driver cooperation.

About all I can suggest is that you get it running at 640*480 as a start, get patch 109402-04, which is the latest video drivers ( its readme is at http://sunsolve.Sun.COM/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=109402&rev=04 )

I don't think it's going to be a lot of help, though, I think Dell laptops are a unix/linux/gnu free zone.

about the only other alternative is to run xfree86 instead, there should be some support - but the houshole (16 year old) linux freak says that as far as he's aware dell latitudes in general are microsoft only devices.

sorry to take so long to get back, the joys of shiftwork include that somtimes it's several days between visits.

What I suggest is to pick the normal
16 colour s---y vga.
Then get the specs for the monitor and card
and edit the /usr/openwin/server/etc/OWconfig file to match your specs.
