Hi All, I have a couple of Sun boxes running solaris 8 and was wondering if anyone could tell me what triggers the rotating of /var/adm/messages to messages0, and 0 to 1, and so on. It does not look like it is a time or size event and the machine only goes down if there is a hardware problem, which is not often.

Thanks for you input,

Billd.

It is a root cron job on Solaris 8.
Changed to in Solaris 9 to logadm.
