Wild guess alert!

My guess is that the kvm switch has a keep alive signal that fools the computer into thinking that the keyboard is still connected. If you were to install the OS with the switch blanked to another computer the keep alive might report as a different????

I would install the OS with the kvm installed and switched to that computer.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
