Hi,
I just bought a second-hand Ultra 10 (300 Mhz) and I want to use it as a local workstation by plugging in a PC monitor. From what I've read on the web this is possible and usually pretty simple.
(the Ultra 10 has a standard HD15 connector on the back so everything is physically connected)
The host is running Solaris 8 02/02 and I can get console connection via serial port.I tried changing the resolution and color depth using m64config:
# m64config -res 800x600x60 -depth 24
This resolution is supported by both the frame buffer(PGX) and the PC monitor.
If I reboot without the serial connection and just connect the Sun Keyboard/mouse and PC monitor, the screen remains blank the entire time. If I then reboot after I reconnect the terminal and disconnect the sun keyboard, an "m64config -prconf" reveals that the frame buffer has reverted back to default resolution (something like 1152x900x66).I have tried the "try" and "now" options for m64config, but the monitor remains blank.
I have also tried 2 other fully working PC monitors but with the same results.Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I faced the same problem, I purchased new monitor with 1024x768?? resolution and it is working fine.
Thanks
Satish Kumar

I have an Ultra 5 which I am using with a PC monitor.
I originally tried to set it up with an older, not-so-great Mag DJ700 monitor and had trouble. Now I am using a Sony Multiscan 200SX and it works great.
It is important to have a true multisync monitor that can adjust to the Sun's different settings.

Hello Guys,
I just got an Ultra 10 machine. I have a NEC MultiSYnc PC monitor that I wanna use with the Ultra 10. Is it possible to do that without having to install a VGA card ? Thanks
Rohit
