I was having fun starting to learn Solaris on an Ultra-1, so I got an Ultra 30 for a little more power to work with.
It has no cdrom drive - which leads to first question. If I swap in a cdrom drive from a pc, will it "autodetect" it or do I need to do something in OpenBoot so it sees it?
The real problem: it hangs up waiting for the NIS to come up. I think this box came off a corporate network. I've got a simple home network but I only supply DNS.
I see the following:
Hostname xyzsf023
/dev/tsalarm:ctl: no such file
can't open device
NIS domainname is xyeng
starting rpc services: rpcbind keyserv ypbind done
WARNING: Timed out waiting for NIS to come upThen it just sits.
If I had a cdrom drive, I could try to boot from the cd, but without one I don't know how to get into the startup instructions so it doesn't try to look for stuff I don't have.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,
Did you try to boot with -s flag (boot -s)? Maybe this way youŽll be able to take your system to single user mode and remove /etc/defaultdomain, remove nis entries from /etc/nsswitch.conf,... and all the modifications you want to.
Bye and good luck!
