Hi,

I am having problem installing
HP DDS3 Tape drive using Adaptec AHA-2910B PCI SCSI controller on Ultra 10. I installed the SCSI card on PCI slot 4.

When I power up the machine with POST diag-level = max, it shows that Ultra 10 detected the scsi card.

When i use devfsadm -v to register the device, it didn't work. I have tried to use boot -rv at OK prompt to register the device but failed, no /dev/rmt/0* are created.

I have tried to change SCSI ID (jumper on the tape drive) and it didn't work.

when i run probe-all-scsi at ok prompt
it just display blank.

Anyone has similar problem?

Do you know if this was a complete install with oem support.
check file /var/sadm/install_data/install_log
first couple lines you should see selected cluster example SUNWCXall. You may not have the device drivers for the card or tape unit. I know that the DDS3 tapes usually work so I am suspecting the scsi card.

also run
/usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v | more
look for the scsi card

Thanks

Can You print the output of probe-scsi-all for me. I.O.W. does the SCSI card haves FPROM?
Otherwise You have to hard mount it in the /etc/path_to_inst .. with the proper driver.
(for the SCSI card)

Go to the /dev/rmt directory and remove any files related to the tape device. Next perform a reconfiguration reboot by 'reboot -- -r' or 'boot -r'. After the reboot check if the device files for the tape drive are recreated in the /dev/rmt directory. Next run 'tpautoconf -t' to show the tape drive.

Hope this helps.
