Hi there,

I have configured my Intel box as a Wingate Server and now want to make my Sun SPARCstation 5 as a Wingate Client. After downloading Netscape for Solaris on SPARC 5, I need to configure my SPARC 5 so that internet sharing is possible.

I have already given static IP address to my Intel and SPARC boxes.

Now my problem is how should I get my SPARC box read the static IP address of my Intel machine which is my Wingate Server.

Please let me know as to how should I go about doing it.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!

setting up your network correctly can be done by editing the following files (on older systems with lance ethernet - le - interface):

/etc/hostname.le0
/etc/hosts
/etc/defaultrouter
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/nodename

check manpages like 'man hosts' and 'man defaultrouter' to see what its all about. the guides at docs.sun.com help as well and the web is full of guides if you type some sane keywords into google.

if wingate is some http proxy, you tell wingate machine's ip to netscape via netscape's settings. other software need to get the proxy info by other means, eg. via the environment variable $HTTP_PROXY - see the manpages for each software. if wingate is something else, you probably put the wingate machine's ip in /etc/defaultrouter.

you can either play with ifconfig and route commands to set the proper network settings on the fly, or just reboot the box after editing the files.

sorry if i don't know what wingate is exactly...

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Wingate is the software works on windows env and helps internet sharing. I have windows 2000 machine configured as wingate server. I had connected my sparc machine via hub to the wingate server. As per your advice I had added the wingate server address in the hosts file and also created a defaultrouter file with the hostname and the address. Still I'm unable to browse the internet on sparc. It gives an error saying that Unable to connect. But it successfully pings the wingate server.

I don't have any file like resolve.conf. Do I need to create that? Could you please guide on what all the steps I need to go thru to browse the internet on sparc via my wingate server.

Thanks in advance........
