Hello,
I've installed Solaris 2.8 on an Intel machine. While installing, i chose the computer is networked, non-dhcp and gave the ip address and Netmask. But now if i give ifconfig -a, it doesn't show the assigned ip, but it shows
lo0: flags=1000849 mtu 8232 index 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000Also, it doesnt ping to any other machine in the network or to the switch.
But it has taken the hostname that i gave during installation. IF i assign an ipaddress and netmask using ifconfig command, it takes that, but it gets lost after a reboot/reboot -- -r
Can anyone suggest a soultion for this problem
Thank you.

Hi,
If all you are seeing when you perform a ifconfig -a is a lo0: device then Solaris is not seeing your network card, I have had similar problems to this under Linux, I would have thought you would have got an error when you attempted your initial network configuration if Solaris didn't see the device. Below I have a copy of a ifconfig -a from my PC running Solaris 8.
The lo0: is your loopback device and will always show up even if the card is not seen.
You will see my ethernet card is called dnet0: (I have x'd out part of my IP address for privacy)
Solaris is very choosey about what cards it supports, particularly new ones. It took me 4 cards before I bought a second hand card that worked.Hope this helps and good luck.
lo0: flags=1000849 mtu 8232 index 1
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
dnet0: flags=1000843 mtu 1500 index 2
inet 1xx.1xx.1.5 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 1xx.1xx.1.255
ether 0:0:f8:2:ed:ed

I am using Accton EN 1207D Series PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter. when i use ifconfig -a, it just shows lo0 device. I think solaris 8 hasn't detected this device. Could you please tell me where i can find the driver for this device.
Thanks.
