Comment:

I installed the Solaris Unix on my new Pentium 4 (1.6 g) but failed. I keep getting messages, first, RESOURCE CONFLICT-BOTH DEVICES ARE ADDED. Then, "NON ACPI DEVICE... ACPI DEVICE...."
The second message is "Error Missing Controller". Finally, I installed Windows 2000 on the machine and it works fine now. However, I still want to install Solaris Unix on the machine and I do not detect any missing controller. Please help

ACPI can often be a reason for installation failures on intel machines. Try turning it off in the BIOS before you install, and re-enable when the installation is succesful. Another reported problem is cpu caching and DMA hard drives, so it may be worthwhile disabling these for the installation as well. I know it'll slow you down a bit but if you can get solaris up and running it'll be well worth it.

Good luck.

Intel 845BG also failed, cannot disable acpi from bios, any ideas? "RESOURCE CONFLICT-BOTH DEVICES ARE ADDED" comes for irq6, which seems to be floppy controller. I removed all unnecessary hardware with no success. Immidiately, when the installation tries to start solaris kernel, it gives some error message, which shows for about 0.0005 seconds & the machine reboots.
